Martin,
The stator job that was done to your Vee...
Was that a recall or a specific problem you brought it in for???
I was asked about it by a guy that has an 03 Vee with a bad stator, and he asked me.
And see this link too:
http://www.stromtrooper.com/feedback-suz...ilure.html

Keep in mind, my (your) Vee is fine, it was just a question that came up.
Thanks for the stator info.

Which brings me to this rant. . .
Being a life-long Central Jersey resident and pretty much limited to single day excursions, I have found some incredibly beautiful locations in this state.
I pack a light lunch, hop on one of the bikes and disappear.
However, the problem of late in New Jersey is traffic.
I've been driving (legally) since 1973. I understand population growth and urban sprawl. I can handle the concept. What I can't handle is the recent increase in traffic here. Within the last 4 or 5 years it has deteriorated tenfold. A big difference lately.

Every single road, no matter how remote, no matter what time of the day has substantial traffic.
I live 9 stinking miles from work. I have been making the exact same commute for 25 years. Historically it has always been a 16 to 18 minute ride. 75% of the journey is on one nearly straight 50 MPH county road.
So why the HELL does it now take me 45 minutes to an hour to get to work every day? WTF!

45 minutes to drive 9 miles on a 50 MPH county road? Ridiculous.
And coming home isn't much better.
I can just forget about commuting by motorcycle during the summer months.
A solid hour of hot, dangerous, cage, truck, and bus traffic in constant stop & go fashion.
My other two bikes are air-cooled. On a hot summer day I need to move once in a while. But no, I sit & roast. Pull up & stop, pull-up & stop, continuously for a solid hour.
As of late, my motorcycles are almost useless in New Jersey.

Four and a half years till retirement.
Get me the f-ck out of here already.

Motorcycles are different things to different people.
My Son's dream bike is a 1919 Harley Davidson, yet he'd be bored to tears with a bran-new Multistrada 1200 S. <Trust me, I know>

Or look at Orange County Choppers. . .
I know their bikes are cherished but I wouldn't know what to do with one if I got it as a gift. Yeah it looks cool but other than that it's useless. No?

I've built up a pair of 35 year old mopeds, one of which could hit 40+ MPH. It was a lot of fun and there is an entire cult of classic moped collectors out there.
I modded a Yamaha Zuma that would hit 70 in a tuck! You may laugh, but that equates to a 240 pound rocket ship that has a zero to 40 MPH launch speed that was frightening. People would look at it and laugh until they rode the damn thing, then you couldn't get em' off it!
Mod, test, tune, & repeat. <costs lots of money - gives little return, just like all hobbies>

Then I was shopping for a 1970's vintage BMW "slash" bike for a rebuild project when I came across Martin's Vee last year.
All of a sudden my BMW plan derailed. <I'm still not exactly sure why>
Even though I had a blast rebuilding the Vee, now that it's all done I'm still confused as to why I have that Vee in my shop and not an old Beamer.

I guess when it comes to motorcycles. . .
Riders ride,
Wrenchers wrench,
Collectors collect,
Racers race, etc...
Seems the one thing we all have in common is some sort of a "budget" that we are constrained by.
