Here's my delima:

The Vstrom as we all know isnt the best choice for an Enduro or Hare Scramble type ride. So I;ve been searching high and low for my next bike. If I go less than 500cc it wont qualify as a "Big Bike" for some of the rides I like to go on. So. I have some Cash limitations so NEW is out of the equation as well.

Below are the options I've explored and some of my thought process. I;d like to hear other opinions on the same.

WR250: I own a 95YZ/WR250 and from what I can tell other than street legal its about the same bike. With my Fat Ass I need something with a bit more power and less snap.

KLR650: These just don't excite me. I've never liked their power band for my riding stlye and definately not enough snap for my fat ass.
XR650 .. I'd like to have one but no one gives them up cheap unless they are BEAT and or they need alot of help which ends up soaking you in the end, you'd wish you would have bought a new one to begin with.

DRZ400: Jorge has graciously offered for me to ride his and if I like it I have the option of purchasing it.

Husky 610: There's one close by me for sale almost in my back yard that needs a new home.

Jeff

Good bikes too...after you replace the wheel bearings, chain ,cracking fuel tank...ect ect LOL
Na the BMW 800 doesnt impress me at all... The KTM 950 Super Enduro is another story. Its like taking the Vstrom motor out and putting it in a true enduro frame. I like that a LOT..... but I;m still thinking smaller bike.
Jeff, I'd hunt down a well kept DR650. You see them often on CL or ADV. I want one too.
Here is a real sharp XR650 http://cnj.craigslist.org/mcy/1438050309.html I'd be tempted if I had the extra cash.
I'm bettin' you've already checked it out, but take a peek at http://www.bigdogadventures.com

He's had the DRZ and the Husky and eventually went for the WR250R. 6 speed, wide seat, FI, long maintenance interval, and uber-awesome rideability. It's no KTM, or 2-stroke performance-wise--but I've put 4000 miles on it since July and it'll get you wherever, whenever--a bunch of 250+ lb guys on the WR thread have 'em and no issues. It's a 250 and down on power, yes, but it's a ton of fun in every respect, IMO, including that one.

Good luck in the search--it's a great situation to be in. There's no bad choice as you'll love whatever you get.
Martin: Yea, I've seen that listing and have contacted the owner already and may go look at it?

Bill: WOW, I had not seen that writeup. Thanks for the link. I read thru the entire thing.. Interesting to hear his take on the WR vs Husky, especially since I;m going to look at a husky this morning.

Guess its been a while since I was on a NEW 250. I only have my older 95 model to compare it too. I have the older 2 stroke WR250 from 95 with the true Wide Ratio Transmission. I wouldn't want to think of slabbing it more than 10 miles. I havent talked to a lot of people with WR's as of late your about the only old timer (if you will) I know that has one. Whats the big diff between the WR/R vs WR/F. I;m assuming the F is NOT Street Legal off the showroom floor and the R is but as far as Tranny etc? I know you can buy factory kits to convert an F to an R? I;ve looked at that cause I have a 04F for Sale close by also.

Your thoughts?

Jeff
hehehehe....Jeff already cut out the KLR, or else i would have sold him that...he sat on mine and felt that the suspension was too spongy Smile

if economy is doing fine next year KLR is a keep or else i might squeeze as many rides on the klr as possible Smile
Well I just sat on a WR and a KLX250 and right next to that was a 09 DRZ400 and After riding Bills and sitting on all 3 in the same lot I think I have mine picked out. Only bike I have not had any time on is the KLX. The DRZ I've had out on the freeway and I'm going to need a bike to get me 60 miles or better if I'm going to ride in the dirt so I'm going for the DRZ..

Do I go new? or used?
Used I get someones shit and that could really suck. Or I run down now and jump on the 1.99 APR lone they have now and get a new black DRZ..

Hey Jorge you selling??
