This place was on the list during last week's Buck Hill Inn Ride but we didn't venture beyond the gate. Curiosity and the fact that I work nearby got the best of me today so I went back with a camera in hopes of finding some cool riding and sights.

I headed north back to Gouldboro, PA and got myself onto Freytown Road.

A half mile after going left at a horse stable I'm at the entrance.

Fence? What fence?

While going around the fence I quickly realized some of the rocks just stick up too much for the DL650 and I soon found myself wishing I had a skid plate. I few knocks down below has me looking for a puddle of oil. But once under way it wasn't too bad but nothing there to hit any great speeds.

After awhile I didn't have to worry about what ever any sign said at the beginning as I was buried in the woods.

Next thing I know there are two campers coming into view but no cars. Obviously who ever owns the land now uses this place for hunting I would imagine. There where vehicle tracks in the mud that looked to be about a week old so they come out here frequently I suppose. But after the campers things changed quickly. Suddenly the road became a non-traveled road and I got into the thick stuff.

To give an idea how low these branches where, I was squatting down when I took them.

At this point I was losing motivation as even with mesh gear on I was beginning to get soaked in sweat from fighting the path and branches. I turned off the bike to march on by foot and left the helmet on since there were enough flies to chew my head off.

The growth is so thick back there and anything left to see if off the "main" road and it would be anyone's guess as to exactly where these artifacts are. I could see a fall trip or possibly winter when the under brush is gone. And so I headed back to the bike and outta there!

Further on up the road though is the Freytown Cemetery and so I stopped and found some stones of interest.

Here are some stones from the Frey family.

This one was of interest. If you look close you'll see that this poor father lost his wife in 1899, his young daughter in 1900 and then his son in WWI in 1918. Then in 1920 he passed away.

After that it was time to find my way back to the real world. A bit disappointed in Freytown but it probably requires some maps from a local courthouse and some serious hiking to find the remnants. I did hope the road was more ridable but it's been let go for so long that's no longer possible. At least the cemetery is maintained as a monument of what was.

Andrew,

I'll keep this in mind and give you a shout this fall. Not so sure about this particular place though. It is private property but we can go by on the way to where ever. Lots of places to explore up that way.

Joe
nice--love to find the roads that continue and dont peter out...pretty cool Joe.
