I know there must be great roads around Bedord PA. The wife and I are planning a trip up there this fall and wondered if there were any "must not miss" roads there to ride. All suggestions taken. Mostly ride pavement, so looking for that. Many thanks in advance

Hmmm....I'm all ears--but don't have much to contribute. I didn't want you to go without a reply.

Didn't know where Beford was. Just looked it up and it's way south/west of me. But, if you're ever up towards the Pocono region I can show you some nice roads if I'm around. I'll pull my camper out if you need a place to stay too. You'll have heat/AC, electric, running water, cable, and cooking. Plus a garage to freshen up the bike. Cool That's my special offer to two up travellers. Smile

That is an offer that is way beyond generous, Joe. We haven't finalized any of the plans yet, but expect to begin trying to make them gel a bit sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. It would be fun to meet some of the folks I interact with here. Betsy Boobies and I Party plan on making it to next year's strom gathering in the East if it is at all possible. I was unaware of when and where that was happening this year until it was too late to change our plans. If we had known, we could have delayed our trip to Western NC a week and been there to meet all the other wacked out strom owners. Big Grin Oh well, timing as they say, is everything.

Not a problem. Do a mapquest on Effort, PA and you'll get an idea where I'm at. I'm probably not close enough to where you were going but the offer still stands if I'm around town at that time.

Some beautiful roads around Bedford - Just pick one and go to your destination I have not found a back road I didn't like. I do try to stay off the highway sweepers.

Seriously Rt 30 from Chambersburg west is a nice ride and you will find a lot of bikes there at the summits hanging out.
Rt 31 west of Bedford sweet sweepers and scenery.

Rt 26 from MD north to State College 100+ miles starts out very challanging and turns into beautiful farmland sweepers - definately head south and you will find the Roadkill Cafe near the border.

Rt 655 back down from State College is another nice ride.

944 601 have tight twisties but are a little farther away - head north and you will find some fantatic roads - go to ADVrider.com and search for the PA Burger Run and you will find great roads just north west of State College.

Hope that helps.

Hi Hotshoe tom
were were in berkley springs (wv) and bedford was not far away from here...infact from where i live its just couple of hundred miles....let us know of ur plans....if we are free we might join u for another camping (or cabin trip)....i have heard that bedford is very beautiful....the guys from whom we rented the cabin said the amish guys there in bedford could build cabin and get it delevired at $3200....might just go in there to check if this is true...

maybe maybe we can pool in some money and get one cabin and go have our own SSYSO headquarters....(all the members will just have standing room)

Roy,

Many thanks for the ride ideas and the link to the Denny's Burger place....I told Betsy, my wife, that I was going to go on a 335 mile ride to eat a hamburger and she told me I was nuts. Big Grin She knew that when she married me... Party so, as our plans get finalized I hope to check out that restaurant and do some rides in the directions you have suggested. I bet we'll discover some wonderful roads ... and some good food too.

We will be finalizing our plans for the trip this week. It looks like the place we'll be staying is up near Altoona on the eastern side. There is a lake there and the cabin is near the lake. Not sure of the exact location at this point. The timing has shifted a bit, it looks like the first week in October rather than the last week in September. More info as it develops! Big Grin
Well, things are gelling and I'm not talking shoe insoles either Big Grin.

We'll be staying in a cabin up near raystown lake, just outside of Huntingdon. The dates are the 2nd through the 11th. Looking forward to seeing some pretty country and awesome roads....and getting away from real life for a few days! Smile
